Great ideas from our clients

While we would like to take credit for all the great ideas out there regarding employee communication, our clients deserve praise for their creative thinking too. Maybe one of their ideas will help you improve your communication program.




The challenge
The Campbell Soup Company was launching a new intranet portal and needed to familiarize employees with its features.

The solution
Rather than create a long, text-based user guide, the company developed a visual guide with screen shots and callout boxes explaining various aspects of the site. It also contained useful tips on everything from signing in to customizing the homepage.

Why we love it
  • The visual guide allows time-pressed employees to quickly find the information that matters
    most to them
  • Since adults process most information visually, the guide helps people learn more easily






The challenge
Petro-Canada wanted to involve employees in the communication process and get them to contribute to the company's intranet site.

The solution
The company gave select employees an inexpensive video camera to create 'YouTube-style' videos about their daily work experiences and posted them online.

Why we love it
While still in the early stages, the pilot group appreciates being more involved in the communication process. Participants enjoy making their own videos as well as watching their colleagues' submissions.






The challenge
MasterCard needed a way to make online articles more scannable.

The solution
For every article on the intranet, the company includes a sidebar called, "What you need to know," which summarizes the article in two to four key points.

Why we love it
  • Employees don't have time to read long articles and the sidebar helps them rapidly get the information they need
