Resolve to partner with IT in 2007

Beyond your usual resolutions—diet, exercise, get organized—there’s one you should seriously consider for 2007: Make this the year that you truly partner with IT.

Whether you’re in HR, Communication or another function, information technology is increasingly critical to meet your objectives. And the good news is that it’s a two-way street: IT needs your help, too, to support big change efforts the function is being called upon to achieve.

To see what’s on the minds of senior IT executives, I invite you to look at the annual survey by CIOInsight magazine on The 30 Most Important IT Trends for 2007

Number 1 on the list? Process improvement. “Most IT executives say improving business processes is their top priority, and CIOs consider it their most important responsibility,” says the report. “Process improvement will be driven by several factors: the desire to react quickly and flexibly to changes in the market (a necessity for revenue growth); the lure of productivity improvement and lower costs; and the need to improve customer service.”

In most organizations, this priority is right in line with the corporate goals, which means it’s aligned to what you want to achieve. That creates great opportunities for collaboration. Resolve to get started right away. (Right after you hit the treadmill.) Happy New Year.
